Chef Jesse Souza Takes the Helm at BALEENlosangeles
REDONDO BEACH, Calif. (June 14, 2010) – The Portofino Hotel & Yacht Club has named Jesse Souza as executive chef for the luxurious 161-room property situated on a private peninsula along the Pacific – Los Angeles’ only waterfront hotel – owned and operated by Noble House Hotels & Resorts.
According to Portofino general manager Malia Osterbauer, Souza will spearhead culinary operations for the hotel’s popular stand-alone restaurant and bar, BALEENlosangeles; as well as in-room dining, the Lobby Lounge and banquet operations for 8,000 square feet of picturesque event facilities. “Chef Souza has worked for over 17 years in fine dining at high-end coastal destinations, and brings a wealth of hospitality experience along with his inventive cooking style to Portofino. We are delighted to have him on board,” says Osterbauer.

San Pedro Facility Takes in Record Numbers of Malnourished Sea Lions
REDONDO BEACH, Calif. (July 28, 2009) – Changing weather patterns have affected marine food supply, and as a result, California sea lion rescue centers throughout the state – including the Marine Mammal Care Center (MMCC) at Fort MacArthur in San Pedro – are taking in record numbers of malnourished sea lions this year.
To help fund the non-profit MMCC – which supports marine animal rescue, rehabilitation and release along the Southern California coast – Portofino Hotel & Yacht Club in Redondo Beach has developed the “Save the Sea Lions” Package, which encompasses a donation to the MMCC, as well as oceanfront accommodations, and entrance to the facility to learn about the marine life that is carefully nursed back to health there and returned to natural habitats.
